A motorcycle powered irrigation pump is identified as the key enabling technology for providing irrigation as a service to smallholder farmers. Mobile irrigations enable farmers to transition from labor intensive hand watering to cultivating larger areas and higher water demand crops while providing an additional revenue stream for local motorcycle riders and entrepreneurs. Field testing of this technology over the course of a dry season in Uganda demonstrated feasibility of technology and significant demand from both farmers and irrigation providers.
